Stop CAUTI
On the CUSP: Stop CAUTI
The Texas Center for Quality & Patient Safety is pleased to announce the opportunity for Texas hospitals to participate in a national initiative to reduce hospital-acquired urinary tract infections. This AHRQ funded initiative is based on the Michigan experience using the Comprehensive Unit Based Safety Program (CUSP) developed by Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and a CAUTI reduction protocol based on a study conducted by St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan, using a nursing-driven evaluation to assess the need for a catheter and daily rounds to encourage discontinuation of unnecessary urinary catheters.
This project, On the CUSP: Stop CAUTI, will be conducted as a partnership of the American Hospital Association's Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET) and the Michigan Health & Hospital Association's Keystone Center for Patient Safety & Quality. There is no charge for hospital teams to participate in the On the CUSP: Stop CAUTI collaborative. Hospitals can register multiple participating units with each unit registering individually. While there is no charge for the collaborative, teams should be prepared to participate fully in collaborative activities, including implementation of the CUSP and the CAUTI reduction protocols, teleconferences, in-person meetings, and data collection and submission.
The collaborative began in March 2011 with a series of introductory calls to orient teams to the project's goals and interventions.
